Our mission is to provide experience for students in developing launch vehicles and scientific payloads, educate the public through outreach activities, and promote STEM to students across Alberta.

Our vision is to provide to our members the necessary experience and skills to pursue a career in the aerospace industry and strengthen Alberta's position as a leader in the Canadian aerospace community.

Our team has launched a total of 5 rockets since our start in 2018.

We consist of largely engineering students with a passion for aerospace and design. Beginning with Ringo I, the second-ever amateur experimental rocket launch on Canadian soil, STARR started something great.

Taking off at Launch Canada 2022 in Cochrane, Ontario with an apogee of 10,671 ft, Ringo I was the first sounding rocket made by the club. This rocket meant a great deal to our team and was a critical step in our development. Second we developed Ringo II which was launched at Launch Canada 2023 in Timmins, Ontario.

The following year we launched Ringo IIB, building off of our proven design of Ringo II. With improved manufacturing techniques, this rocket was STARR’s first international appearance taken to IREC 2024. Coming back to Canadian soil for Launch Canada 2024, we built Ringo III.

Between our impressive manufacturing abilities and our state of the art payload, we ended up winning the competition and were awarded 1st overall in all categories we participated in. This was a huge step forward for the team, as we were recognized for all the hard work and dedication that went into the development of this rocket.

Next was Ringo IV. For this rocket, STARR looked to push the boundaries of our design and manufacturing capabilities. With a projected altitude of 30,000 ft, this rocket was set to be the highest launch yet in the club’s history. However, our ambition got the best of us and we suffered our first launch failure as a club.

While this was not the outcome we were looking for, this launch was not a complete loss. After recovering our rocket, we now have plenty of data to analyse and bring about a better understanding of this design’s shortcomings. Our previous rockets have taught us a great deal about the design process, manufacturing and what it takes to work as a team.
