From August 29th to September 2nd, my father Jannes and I will be participating in the World’s Longest Baseball Game, an event dedicated to raising funds for cancer research in Alberta. This year is particularly meaningful for us. As a child, over the years, I have cheered for my Dad and his teammates on the side lines, anticipating the day I could join a team in the World's Longest Games. This is the 1st year that I will participate in the fight against cancer, alongside my Dad, who marks his 8th time in a Worlds Longest Baseball or Hockey Game!

We are playing in memory of my grandfather Feike Freerksen, my grandmother Annelene Freerksen, and all other friends and family we have lost to cancer. Additionally, we play to support those who are currently battling this devastating disease.

The event, now in its 3rd edition, will see over 50 dedicated baseball players striving to break the Guinness World Record by playing for more than 100 hours straight. Our goal is to raise $300,000 for the Cure Cancer Foundation, with all proceeds going directly to cancer research at the University of Alberta. The funds will go towards the purchase of an MR Sim at the Cross Cancer Institute. This state of the art equipment will change the way we detect, diagnose and treat cancer.

By participating in this game, we aim to provide hope to cancer patients who have exhausted all known treatments. The funds raised will enable these patients to be part of groundbreaking clinical trials, offering them a better chance at a cancer-free outcome and more precious time with their loved ones.
