**There is a shortage of primary care providers in rural and suburban communities, which provides an opportunity for pharmacists to deliver an enhanced level of service to patients in these communities. Many pharmacists in rural and suburban areas offer medication management services. Hospital placement sites are used province-wide to fulfill acute care/inpatient placement requirements. But students have reported that traveling to "locations away from home" imposes additional financial burden.** 

**Our mission is to foster high quality experiential education by recruiting, retaining and supporting exemplary preceptors in diverse practice settings throughout the province in order to provide students with optimal learning opportunities and graduate pharmacists capable of meeting the needs of society.**

**In order to accomplish this, we need to develop, expand, and identify resources to support student experiential development and learning.**

**Students embrace learning opportunities that align with their interests and passions without barriers. They consider many factors when selecting a placement site, and those with established and robust opportunities that align with the student's goals can influence student's choices. Helping students adjust, afford, access housing and fit-in to a new community are some of the many considerations.** 

**Preceptors have the opportunity to provide the best exemplary education for pharmacy students in Alberta. The better the experience and support that pharmacy students have while on rotation, the more likely they will come back after graduation to provide care in these communities.**
