Alberta has the highest rate of food insecurity in Canada with 23% of children having lived in food insecure households. Students are facing unexpected financial challenges including food, emergencies requiring travel, natural disasters, and often need immediate support to continue their education.

One recipient shared their experience of unexpected challenges:

“This was the first time I had lived away from my family. I faced unexpected challenges from the start. The apartment I rented was flooded just one week after I began renting it, and only 10 days after arriving in Canada, forcing my roommate and me to relocate several times over one and a half months. It was very stressful. Access to emergency funding would have helped a lot and alleviated that stress."

This fund provides immediate assistance to students facing financial struggles. By alleviating financial burdens, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to pursue their passion for public health and make a positive impact in their communities.
