# **Our Mission**

Our mission is to provide students with experience in developing launch vehicles and scientific payloads, educate the public through outreach activities, and promote STEM to students across Alberta.

# **Launch Canada**

Launch Canada is a yearly competition for university teams, held in Timmins, Ontario. Teams enter into categories for rockets with either basic or advanced propulsion systems or into a separate technological development category.

STARR has competed in every Launch Canada competition and has found success. In 2024, we won the overall competition, the basic launch category, and the payload challenge with our rocket, Ringo III, and its Payload, BIOME II.

We’re returning this year with big goals:

1. To launch a two-stage rocket named Albireo in the advanced category
2. To perform a hot fire engine test of our liquid rocket engine, PAULL-01

Albireo is set to deploy the fourth iteration of our payload, BIOME IV. We are new to both of these categories, which brings many technical and logistical challenges. However, we are up to the task and have made great strides, with much of the propulsion system and the rocket completed in either design or manufacturing.

# **How you can help us**

We still have a lot of equipment and machining services left to procure. Without these, both PAULL-01 and Albireo will be unable to be completed before our June and July deadlines.

For Albireo, we are midway through the airframe manufacturing phase. Funds from this campaign can help secure our ability to use mandrel removal services on the U of A campus.

We’ve constructed most of the fluid delivery system for PAULL, which uses Ethanol and Nitrous Oxide. We still have outstanding purchases, including sandbags, wheel chocks, and gasket material. Machining work is still needed to finish the engine’s injector.

Additionally, STARR also had to build and fly a smaller two-stage rocket to qualify us for the full-scale Albireo project. We launched it once, and the stages worked, but the second stage resulted in an unsuccessful landing. As a result, we need to repurchase the electronics that were damaged during the second stage’s descent. Your donation would help us cover these costs.

# **Impact**

Donating will help us procure the necessary materials and manufacture the remaining components, but it does more than that! Having these projects ready will allow a club-record 19 people to attend the competition, many of whom will be attending for the first time. Attending this competition will be an amazing professional development opportunity for these undergraduate students, and should we be successful, there will be a spotlight on the talent pool at the U of A. We can represent the excellence of Alberta, Edmonton, and the university on a national stage.
