**Cooking with real ingredients can be an expensive proposition for students, but it’s a critical skill. Students get the skills they’ll need for future careers in fields like nutrition, dietetics, food science and human ecology by applying food theory in a kitchen with lab-based instruction. The classes cover food preparation fundamentals and even invite students to develop new food products. The Applied Food Science fund covers the cost of ingredients for these hands-on classes.** 

**This fund covers the cost of quality ingredients for NUFS 250: Applied Food Theory, bringing their coursework to life. Students learn to work with actual food and can develop meals that move beyond individual nutrients and harness the power of delicious and varied food ingredients through an overall healthy dietary pattern. These experiences pay dividends well into the future for students and those they work with throughout their careers.** 

**Participants are nourished with more than just a good meal. In a recent survey, students agreed that the Applied Food Theory experiences positively differentiated them from students in other programs on campus. These future food scientists have also been inspired to support the broader student community through a partnership with Campus Kitchens, which provides cooking lessons in healthy, affordable and culturally diverse recipes. Nutrition and healthy eating are foundational to students’ success during their degree and beyond.**
